Chao anh! My name is Minh, which means 'bright' in Vietnamese. Legend says that the Vietnamese people are descended from Lac Long Quan (Lac Dragon Lord) and Au Co (a mountain fairy). My country is very beautiful, with fields of rice growing bright green, tall mountains, and misty forests.

- Names have specific meanings, and carry a powerful force in Vietnam. Children are traditionally not given a name until they are at least one month old.
- Children in Vietnam go to school six days a week- Monday through Saturday. The school day is about four hours long, and the school year runs from September through May.
- Though Vietnam is 1,650 kilometers (1,031 miles) from north to south, the country's most narrow point, traveling east to west, is only 50 kilometers (31 miles) across.
