Quasimodo came to be under the care of corrupt Judge Frollo as an infant, after the man killed his gypsy mother.  Since then, he has been hidden away at the top of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, as Frollo believes Quasimodo’s misshapen back to be too hideous for others to see.  While attending the Festival of Fools, Quasimodo meets Esmeralda, a gypsy girl with whom he falls in love.  Unfortunately, a man named Phoebus who has been named Captain of the Guard under Frollo, is also in love with Esmerelda.  After his life is saved by Phoebus, Quasimodo decides to approve of a relationship between the two.  Finally, Esmeralda presents Quasimodo to the people of Paris, and he is accepted, finally feeling as if he may walk the streets amongst other people.
