"We received my first letter from my "sponsored daughter", i.e., sponsored orphan thru CHI's sponsorship plan.  Not only did we get a wonderful letter,we also received updated pictures.  To read the joy this child has just because she has a sponsor is extremely touching.  No, these children
are not available for adoption, but there is still an emotional connection.  Apparently this little girl received a translated copy of our letter and ran around all day with it at school.  I was sent new pictures of her smiling widely holding a piece of paper, which we assume is the letter.  We sent pictures of our children to her, and now she considers them her American jie jie and her American mei mei.

We are planning to return to China for a Homeland Tour, probably shortly after I retire in 3 years.  Jin Jin will be almost 6 then. Starting next year, sponsors can go visit their sponsored children, and we have already been invited by her teacher to do so.  She is practicing a song for us. 

I posted this not only to encourage more families to sponsor, but to bring a lil cheer to those waiting still.  It takes very little time to type a letter to your sponsored child, and very little money each month, and for those waiting and looking for something worthwhile to do, here is an option.  It is also great for all of us BTDT too."

"We too are sponsoring a child through the CHI program.  We received a letter this week...and our referral last week.  Needless to say it's been wonderful.  The boy we're sponsoring wants to be an artist and he sent two drawings to us.  They are proudly displayed on our fridge.  We feel so lucky to be able to help another child in need.  It's hard to type this email because I'm holding back tears of joy.  Shuaili has polio but the most wonderful outlook on his future.  His letter makes me smile every time I read it. 

If at all possible, please check out the sponsorship site.  It will make you happy and sad but most of all feel terrific inside if you decide to help out one of these deserving children.  It may be a while before we get to go back to China but I do hope to make it to his province one day.  Email and scanners make communication easy and keeps the cost down on the program so more of the money goes to the orphan and not the administration of the program."
