Zhang Yifan was born in November, 1996 to a poor peasant family. He was a weak baby and did not progress as quickly as other children.  When he was born, he was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and surgery was recommended by the doctors.  His family had no way to pay for his surgery, so Zhang Yifan was left to languish.

Co-workers at a bank in Chicago raised the money to sponsor Zhang Yifan’s surgery.  He is now recovering steadily and his family is overjoyed.
