1. How does CHI ensure the security of its sponsored orphans?
CHI wants to ensure that all children feel completely secure from the fear or reality of potential abuse - whether physical or emotional - resulting from inappropriate contact by a sponsor or any other person.
For this reason, CHI only releases limited information about the orphans. We do not divulge last names, community names, specific locations, or any other information allowing the orphan's location to be easily identified. We intentionally withhold this information until after the sponsor's identity is verified. The sponsorship process depends upon your agreement, as a sponsor, to respect the rights of your sponsored orphan. You should not attempt to contact a sponsored orphan, his or her orphanage, or community members in any way other than described and permitted in advance in writing by CHI. In particular, telephone calls, emails, or unplanned visits to the orphan's residence and community are forbidden without written permission and oversight by CHI. In addition, all correspondence must abide by CHI policy as stated in materials sent to each sponsor.
2. How does CHI protect my sponsored orphan's privacy?
CHI assures orphans and their caregivers that we will protect the integrity of their information, including photographs. We also ensure their privacy by protecting them from any inappropriate contact from sponsors or others. Downloading, copying, or other replication of photos or other information that are a part of this website without advance written permission from CHI is strictly forbidden. Orphan profiles are presented for the purpose of conveying appropriate information about the sponsorship relationship to the potential sponsor, and are not for distribution in any other manner.
3. How does CHI ensure its orphans are shown with dignity?
CHI is committed to portraying the lives of orphans, their caregivers, and members of their community with accuracy and dignity. The orphans we work with are not objects to be pitied, but are partners with us in the process of bringing holistic (spiritual, physical, psychological and social) transformation to communities in poverty and in transforming the hearts of beneficiaries and donors alike. We seek the full, informed consent of guardians and/or community leaders for an orphan's participation in our orphan sponsorship programs.
