Orphans in Literature and Film
"Please, sir, I want some more." by George Cruikshank

Literature, animation and movies frequently feature orphaned characters.  These characters are typically very resourceful, having to find ways to provide for themselves due to an absence of parental guidance.  They usually grow up to be independent and self-sufficient, yet longing for real affection.

The imagination of these characters leads to exciting stories, full of adventure and plot twists.  Frequently, orphan characters are able to create their own families, by forming close bonds with the people they meet in life, despite having started out alone.
