Nicholas Scopetta
NYC Commissioner
Nicholas Scopetta was born in New York City in 1932 and he currently serves as New York’s 31st Fire Commissioner. When he was only five years old, Nicholas was placed in the foster care system and lived in different foster institutions until the age of twelve. After graduating from high school in 1950 he served in the US Army for two years and then attended Bradley University, where he graduated with a degree in Engineering in 1958. Next year he enrolled in Brooklyn Law School, where he took night classes while working in the courts during the day helping with cases involving child abuse and neglect. Nicholas Scoppetta lives in New York with his wife and they have two grown children.
