Greatest Need Fund
Thousands of orphans around the world are in desperate need of health care right now. Millions of others are subjected to child labor, sex trafficking, and various other forms of abuse and exploitation. Impoverished parents must choose between keeping their family together or giving their children up to an orphanage that can, at least, offer them food and shelter. The Children’s Hope Greatest Need Fund provides immediate assistance to orphaned children and to families where children are at risk of losing their parents through health, nutrition, material aid, educational, and social programs. Greatest Need: China
Only half of China’s estimated 600,000 orphans receive a basic government subsidy, and this aid is just a quarter of what a child needs to live. They struggle without adequate food, clothing and shelter, and have little or no access to specialized education, counseling, and other services that can give them a fighting chance for the future. Greatest Need: Colombia
Four decades of armed conflict between the Colombian government and the drug-trafficking militias have resulted in a humanitarian crisis that constantly threatens the rights of Colombia’s women and children. As a result of this, approximately 3.5 million people are internally displaced, more than half of which are children. Read more>>
Greatest Need: India
With over one billion people (the world’s second highest population) India has some of the highest rates of poverty, malnourishment, unsafe drinking water, child labor, and mortality. Over 25,700,000 children are orphans and even more are street children. One child under the age of 5 dies every 3 seconds because they lack simple medications, adequate food, and clean water. Because of poverty, abandonment, death of parents, criminal activity, divorce, prostitution and childhood illnesses there are over 1,800,000 orphans in Vietnam right now. Most of these orphans have to fend for themselves, often working as street peddlers, beggars, prostitutes or criminals.
