Junior Ambassadors

At CHI, we've found that often our supporters with the biggest hearts are children who are eager to help kids just like them. Kudos to our Junior Orphan Ambassadors, who have used their creativity and hard work to raise funds for orphans worldwide!

The children listed below are all members of CHI's elite Junior Orphan Ambassadors club.  Their generosity and effort have earned them a membership which includes: listing their names and efforts on CHI's website, a membership welcome letter and pin like the one shown at right, and the satisfaction of helping those who can not help themselves.

You too can become a member of CHI's Junior Ambassadors club!  Just email or mail in a description of your effort and its results.  Once we receive all the information we will confirm your membership.

2009 Junior Ambassadors

Maria Perez
In honor of her Gotcha Day (April 15th), Maria decided to ask family and friends for contributions to help raise money for orphaned children in China in need of surgery.  Her goal was to raise $500.  She was overwhelmed with responses and contributions that equaled $1720.  Maria would like to herself become a surgeon of some sort when she gets older.  Helping children who need surgery is very important to her, especially children who are living in an orphanage.

Lucas Tellez
Lucas' parents are Colombians and have told him many stories about children who lived through the war in Colombia.  For his 5th birthday party he asked friends to give a donation to Children's Hope International to help these children instead of buying him gifts.  Lucas will be traveling to Colombia this coming summer with his family and will hopefully have a chance to meet the children he is so graciously helping!

Katherine Donner
For her birthday Katherine asked that in lieu of gifts people would consider making a donation that would be used to help chidlren in China.  This is the second year that Katherine has done this and she gets really excited about helping other children from China.  She raised $300 to be sent to help orphans in Dianbai, China.

Mason Fourth Graders - CHI Junior Ambassadors make a difference. Perhaps you want to, too. But how? For fourth graders in Mason, Texas, odd jobs around the home and around town translated to $200 towards nutritious meals for Vietnamese orphans.

If “odd jobs” is not specific enough, try pickles and pickle popsicle sales!

Fourth graders from Jenni Shoemaker’s Alpine class sold the salty treats last year, twice a week after school for five months. The youth were in charge of all aspects of selling and all aspects of making a difference.

“I am so very proud of this group of kids,” says Jenni. “Not only did they raise $500 for Vietnam in honor of my daughter from Vietnam, they also saved soda can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, and served a dinner that raised $1,800 for our Alpine Veterans and $500 for Muscular Dystrophy.”

Thank you to all of these amazing Mason and Alpine Junior Ambassadors and to teachers Jenni Shoemaker, Jamie Lee and Ann Lehmberg!

2008 Junior Ambassadors

Children's Hope would like to express a special thank you to everyone who sent encouraging messages to children impacted by China's recent earthquake.  Your thoughts and prayers are helping them get through this terrible time.

Rowe school.

Kela Bournay - Kela wanted to help kids who are not as fortunate as her so she decided to have a charitable donation birthday party.  For her 9th birthday, she asked friends and family to donate for orphans instead of bringing her gifts.  Kela raised $500 for child burn victims in China, where Kela and her sister were both adopted from.

Laura Rice - Laura is working towards earning her Gold Award with the Girl Scouts.  As part of this endeavor, se started a project to help spread awareness about sponsorship programs and their benefits for both the children and sponsors involved.

Maria Yu Ping Perez - After reading the updates from Children's Hope concerning the problems many Chinese orphanages faced due to the winter storms, Maria asked friends invited to her 7th birthday party to make donations for her orphanage rather than buying her a gift.  She decided helping the children there was more important than collecting more toys for herself.  Maria and her friends raised $325 for Shangrao SWI.

Julia Clark - Julia donated her pet sitting money to help orphans.  After watching American Idol, Julia felt called to help. So, she and her mom called Children's Hope to see how she could.  Her gift is now going towards buying a hearing aid for an orphan in Russia who has severe hearing problems.

They raised enough money to  heat the entire orphanage.

2007 Junior Ambassadors

The kids discussed thoroughly who and what they’d like to support and children their age in China was the unanimous vote.  They then brought their mission to the entire camp and asked for donations toward “their” cause.  They also resolved to continue raising money on their own throughout the year, and bring it to camp in ongoing support of their mission to help children their age in China.

Jacob Cudini - Jacob's family has decided to adopt a child from Kazakhstan. Jacob (age 8) was shocked and saddened to learn about all the children without parents and homes. And then he realized that these children probably didn't have very many toys of their own either. Jacob decided to do something about that. He came up with the idea of a Teddy Bear drive at his school in Loveland, Colorado.  He asked his 3rd grade friends to bring stuffed animals so the children in Kazakhstan could have a "best buddy" of their own to love.

Jacob states, " I thought by giving the orphans teddy bears, they would know somebody loves and cares for them."

Tyler & Josh Hoffmann - Tyler and Josh held a garage sale in honor of their little sister Myah.  They decided to sell toys and other items to help children in need.  After looking through the Hope catalog, Tyler decided to give to the foster homes project.  He said "all kids deserve to have a mom and dad to take care of them and to play with."  Josh chose the birthday gifts project because "everyone should get a gift on their special day."

Heather & Brittany Mazzi

Heather writes: "Our Sunday School class decided to help children somewhere in the world.  We voted on which country to donate to, we picked China. In Church everybody (the kids) made their own banks. They would bring in money, coins and dollars and put them in the banks.  I hope that we will have lots of money this year too.  This will be the third year that we are collecting money for the medical needs of the Children of China."

Julie Zammit's Class

Although the SBEC Latin students and their teacher, Mrs. Julie Zammit, did not go to Russia on their school's recent mission trips, they have found their own unique way to benefit needy children in Latin America. When students do something noteworthy, such as having a good answer in class or helping the teacher with a task, they receive a ticket for their efforts. They may then trade this ticket for either a piece of candy or a 10-cent donation to the Amanecer de AMOR orphanage in Guatemala, where the financial situation is particularly critical. Mrs. Zammit likes the fact that the system allows the students to choose whether or not to donate. The class raises around $15 per week, about enough to provide formula for a baby. Mrs. Zammit sends the donations to CHI, the adoption agency that helped her and her husband adopt their son, Simeon, from a similar orphanage in Guatemala.

Sarah Breland

Sarah Breland, the 2nd grader who recently initiated a bake sale at her elementary school to raise funds for CHI's humanitarian efforts, also collected donations at her eighth birthday party. Sarah, who was adopted from Kunming, Yunnan in 1996, requested that half the money be sent to fund medical projects in China and that the other half go to the Hope Centers.
