Greatest Need: China
Only half of China’s estimated 600,000 orphans receive a basic government subsidy, and this aid is just a quarter of what a child needs to live. They struggle without adequate food, clothing and shelter, and have little or no access to specialized education, counseling, and other services that can give them a fighting chance for the future. Medical Programs in China
More than half of the 70,000 orphans living in orphanage institutions have special medical needs. Without support, these children must wait for critical, life-changing services such as heart surgery, cleft palate repair, counseling, physical therapy, or simply a wheelchair. Heart Surgeries in China
Each year, Children's Hope helps dozens of people like you provide a heart surgery to an orphan or child from an impoverished home in China. In 2008, donors gave gifts for 111 heart surgeries in China. Most of the children who received help came from families that were too poor to provide surgery for their child, or they were orphans that could not afford surgery at all. Cleft Lip/Palate Surgeries
Give a child a smile. Three beautiful babies in Guangxi province need Cleft lip/palate surgeries. This condition can cause numerous physical and social problems. However, it is easily remedied with corrective surgery. Read more>>
Post Surgical Care
The time immediately following surgery is critical to the healing process. Children often require six months to one year of recovery and rehabilitative care. Orphanages simply do not have enough trained staff to provide individualized, post-operative care that children need to fully recover.
