Alexander Hamilton
Politician, financier
(1755-1804)
Alexander Hamilton, who was one of Founding Fathers of the United States of America, was born to James Hamilton and Rachel Faucett Lavien on January 11, 1755. He was originally born on the island of Nevis in the British West Indies; however, in 1765 his family moved to St. Croix and his father abandoned them soon after. Three years later his mother passed away, leaving Alexander an orphan at the age of twelve. Despite Hamilton’s humble beginnings, he was a lawyer, an Army officer, a leading statesman, a financier and a political theorist, in addition to being one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. Moreover, he was one of the creators of the US Constitution and is responsible for developing some of the key principles that drive the American economy to this day.
