did you know...
- ...that there are currently 143 million orphans in the world?
- ....or that millions more children are at imminent risk of becoming orphans?
The word "orphan"
When many of us hear the term "orphan", we automatically think of a child whose parents have both died. However, the definition is actually much broader.
According to the U.S. government, an orphan is defined as a child under the age of sixteen who has experienced "the death or disappearance of, abandonment or desertion by, or separation or loss from both parents, or for whom the sole or surviving parent is incapable of providing the proper care." Thus, an orphan is any child without adequate parenting care.
Our Orphan Sponsorship Goal
To help you help children in need. We will partner with you to provide orphans with hope, using various means of assistance depending on each child's individual needs. Through this program, you can provide a child with emotional and financial support that will help them grow up stronger, healthier, and happier.

Through Orphan Sponsorship, you can also help children who are at risk of becoming orphans as a result of poverty, disease, hunger, and other universal issues that can tear families apart. Whenever possible, this program seeks to preserve families that might otherwise be forced to give their children up because they cannot provide adequate care.
Why Orphan Sponsorship?
Since the origins of Children's Hope in 1992, we have given time and money to the needs of orphans wherever we have encountered them. As we became increasingly aware of the immense needs of orphans worldwide, we made the decision to establish an arm of our agency that would encourage others to give as well, thus leveraging our own efforts. We wanted to involve greater forces than our own in order to make a greater impact.
Our first few years of fundraising effort produced some results, but ultimately they were too meager to really meet the vast needs of orphans worldwide. Direct mail, grant writing, one-time appeals, and "orphan train" events all had their moments of exhilaration, but overall they did not produce many dollars to give to children in need.
So, after much research and consideration, we decided to develop a program to meet the needs of thousands more orphans worldwide.
As a sponsor, you will build a special relationship with an orphan and help bring hope for a better tomorrow. Your monthly gift will benefit not just your particular orphan, but will also help the community in which he or she lives. At CHI, we believe that to truly help a child we must work to better his or her environment. To this end, your monthly sponsorship gift may provide nutrition, medical care, social opportunities, educational training, or other forms of aid, depending upon the needs of your particular orphan and the surrounding community.
Thank you for partnering with us to bring hope to orphans in need!
