Are today’s modern electronics blurring your children’s view of God’s heart?
By your youth group simply giving up electronic devices for 3 Days of Focus... a village of 1,000 people will have fresh water to drink or an orphan child in Ethiopia, who would otherwise end up on the street, will be able to go to school and learn a trade. Just for three days without computer games, a child in China will have heart surgery and begin a new life.
Objective
- Teenagers in youth groups across the country will give up 3 Days of electronics to Focus on God.
- No cell phones, no television, no game-boys, no I-pods, no texting. For 3 Days of Focus, these young people will put their eyes, ears, and hearts on God.
- They will pray and think about what God calls us to do for others… especially the world’s orphans.
Project
Teaming with Children’s Hope International, the teenagers will earn pledges for 3 Days of Focus that will go toward your youth group’s selected project.
Life-Changing Surgery
More than half of the 70,000 orphans living in state-run orphanages have special medical needs. Furthermore according to most recent statistics, 4-6% of the 15.93 million infants born annually in China suffers from various congenial disorders. Without support, these children must wait for critical, life-changing services such as heart surgery, cleft palate repair, and other medical procedures.
In 2007, Children's Hope International sponsored almost 500 surgeries in China. Most of the children who received help came from families that were too poor to provide surgery for their child, or they were orphans that could not afford surgery at all. With your help, we hope to be able to complete 1,000 life-changing surgeries in 2008.
Cleft Lip/Palate: $500
Heart Surgery: $5,000
Skills Training for Older Orphans
Most orphans are required to leave the orphanage by the age of 18. With minimal preparation for life in the real world and no support network, many find themselves trapped in the lives of poverty, prostitution, drugs and other crime.
Your support for this project will help prepare these kids for life after the orphanage. Job skills and various counseling programs will equip them with tools they can use to become productive in the adult world.
China: $250/month (varies depending on length of program)
Ethiopia: $500/student
Clean Water in India
More than 2 billion people in the world today live on less than $1 a day, and over 1 billion individuals still don’t have access to safe drinking water. Furthermore, in 2005, almost 5,000 people died every day because they lacked clean water (most of them were children under the age of 5).
At Children’s Hope we believe that clean water is a basic human need that everyone is entitled to. We have traveled throughout India, and in community after community, we have seen the serious need for clean water. Just imagine seeing hundreds of mothers and children coming to get water where previously there was none.
Well in India: $500
Concept
Pledge cards and envelopes will be given to each youth group. Each participating individual will then get aunts, uncles, cousins and neighbors to sponsor them per hour. After 3 Days of Focus they have raised money that will bring hope to orphans. Your group will receive a confirmation report along with pictures of your completed project!
Time-Line
Kick Off / Media Fast ~ April 1, 2008 in honor of “National TURN Off the TV Month” will continue throughout the Summer of 2008.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”
